Offensive tackle Lane Johnson and RB Miles Sanders are cleared to play in Week 2 against the Rams. What is expected of the Eagles’ offense with these additions?

The two players are set to play against the Rams in Week 2 after missing out against the Eagles’ game opener against the Washington Football Team.

What is expected from both players?

Lane Johnson

The OT had ankle surgery in August which made him miss training camp because the Eagles were getting him ready for the regular season. However, Johnson had to miss out on Week 1 which left rookie right tackle Jack Driscoll in his place.

With the offensive line giving up 8 sacks to in the loss against Washington, Philadelphia desperately needs to strengthen their pass protection. Luckily, Johnson, in a podcast, stated that he had a “clean up” of his ankle with the surgery. That ankle apparently was bothering him for several years.

“The last two years, this has all kind of been leading up to this (the surgery),” Johnson said on Derrick Gunn’s “Gunn-On-One” podcast. “I haven’t really been 100% since I took the hit against Jacksonville (Week 8 of the 2018 season). I’ve kind of been on one leg for some time. Once I get the strength back, I’m ready to be a different player.”

With Johnson back protecting Wentz, it will surely help in increasing their chances to beat the Rams.

Miles Sanders

The running back was on the sideline for weeks in training camp due to an initial minor hamstring injury. However, he missed Week 1 as the Eagles were cautious about him returning. He was sorely missed in the season opener, with the Eagles only achieving 57 rushing yards.

Sander’s primary backup, Boston Scott, left and returned after a lower-body injury occurred in the game. While Sanders will probably snag the role of primary RB, Scott will maintain a role in the Eagles’ backfield.

Sanders’ rookie campaign was impressive, with the RB accumulating over 1300 yards from scrimmage. So we will be expecting a lot from him this season as well.
