Alvin Kamara agrees to a five-year $75 million contract extension with the New Orleans Saints. The deal comes shortly after Cook’s extension.

Contract Details

The deal makes Kamara the second richest running back in the league (behind Christian McCaffery) with an average salary of $15 million. The extension includes a $15 million signing bonus as well as $34.3 million in guarantees, the highest for running backs.

Alvin Kamara’s Rise to Stardom

While it may be dangerous to be running backs so much money, the Saints believe Kamara is much more than a running back. That sentiment is clearly echoed in his play.

In each of his first three seasons, Kamara has totaled 81 receptions and is already one of four running backs in NFL history with three-plus seasons of 80 or more receptions.

His running capabilities shine as well as he’s averaged 6.1, 4.6, and 4.7 yards-per-carry making him one of the most dangerous runners in the league.

Last season, despite Kamara playing through an MCL injury, he still managed to total 1,330 scrimmage yards (797 on the ground and 533 through the air) through 14 games. He was a big hitter since his rookie days and is as explosive as anyone in the league.

Kamara has been to the Pro Bowl in each of his three seasons and will look to build upon his success in the coming season. He remains a vital part of the Saints offense and will be for the next five years now.
