The 2020 NFL season kicked off on Thursday and now most of the rest of the league will get to work on Sunday. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is the defending NFL MVP and he’ll begin his season at 1 p.m. ET against the Browns with hopes of replicating his 2019 season opener. Jackson threw for 324 yards and five touchdowns against the Dolphins on just 20 pass attempts in a 59-10 rout and he’ll be an undoubtedly popular option for Week 1 NFL DFS lineups.

However, the NFL DFS player pool features a lot of more cost-effective quarterback options with upside on Sunday, including Cam Newton against the Dolphins, Josh Allen against the Jets and Philip Rivers against the Jaguars. And with big money on the line in NFL DFS tournaments, cash games and 50-50s on FanDuel and DraftKings, everybody will be on the hunt for value. Before finalizing any Sunday NFL daily Fantasy picks, be sure to check out the NFL DFS advice, stacks and projections from SportsLine daily Fantasy guru Mike McClure, who has nearly $2 million in career DFS winnings.

He’s crushed his NFL DFS picks in 2019, finishing as high as the top 1 percent of tournaments on DraftKings and returning as much as 40x return in some higher-stakes tournaments. He then continued his roll in the postseason, cashing on every single lineup he posted for the divisional round. Anyone who followed him saw some huge returns.

Now, he has turned his attention to the Week 1 Sunday DFS player pool and locked in his top daily Fantasy football picks. You can only see them by heading to SportsLine.

Top NFL DFS picks for Week 1

One of McClure’s top NFL DFS picks for the Sunday main slate in Week 1 is Falcons receiver Julio Jones at $8,200 on FanDuel and $7,700 on DraftKings. Jones and the Falcons will take on a Seahawks pass defense that ranked 27th in the NFL in passing yards allowed in 2019.

Even with Calvin Ridley emerging in the Atlanta offense, Jones is the unquestioned No. 1 option for Matt Ryan and last season he finished the year with a flurry. Jones was targeted a whopping 48 times in the final three games of the season and hauled in 30 receptions for 378 yards and a couple of scores during that span. Look for him to pick up where he left off and take advantage of a weak Seahawks secondary on the way to big numbers on Sunday.

Part of McClure’s optimal NFL DFS strategy also includes rostering Washington Football Team running back Antonio Gibson ($4,600 on FanDuel, $4,000 on DraftKings). After playing as a hybrid running back/wide receiver at Memphis, it looked as if Gibson would have to play a similar role to earn touches in a crowded Washington backfield.

However, after Adrian Peterson got cut late in camp, Gibson is suddenly in line for a much larger role in the Washington offense. In his final season at Memphis, Gibson had 38 catches for 735 yards and eight touchdowns and carried the ball 33 times for 369 yards and four more scores. Washington will be looking for similar spark and he could turn in big numbers on as little as 10-12 touches at a great price on Sunday.

How to set Week 1 DFS lineups

McClure is also targeting a player who could go off for massive numbers on Sunday because of a dream matchup. This pick could be the difference between winning your tournaments and cash games or going home with nothing.
