Marnus Labuschagne catch: The Australian batsman timed his dive to perfection to send back the English wicket-keeper batsman.

During the first ODI of the ongoing Australia’s tour of England in Manchester, Australia batsman Marnus Labuschagne’s athletic fielding skills aided his team to trap the big fish in England wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler.

It all happened on the first delivery of the 17th over when Buttler’s attempt of playing a lofted shot off Australia spinner Adam Zampa saw him lose his wicket. Having mis-timed the delivery down the ground, Buttler realized his error as soon as he hit the shot.

As for the catch, Labuschagne ran in from long-off to cover a significant distance before eventually putting on display a full-length dive to grab the catch inches off the ground. The timing of the dive held the key for Labuschagne.

Buttler, who was promoted to No. 5 in a 295-run chase, ended up departing for 1 (4) in a disappointing fashion. Having previously scored 497 runs at an average and strike rate of 55.22 and 139.21 including a couple of centuries in 12 ODI innings at No. 5, Buttler failed to create any impact tonight.

Zampa, who had dismissed England captain Eoin Morgan (23) in his earlier over, proved his worth yet again by dismissing Buttler as well.

After England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and invited the visitors in to bat, Australia managed to post a competitive 294/9 in 50 overs despite a jittery start on the back of a game-changing 126-run partnership between Mitchell Marsh (73) and Glenn Maxwell (77).

With bowling figures of 10-0-54-3, England fast bowler Mark Wood was the pick of their bowlers. While Jofra Archer also picked three wickets, the likes of Adil Rashid and Chris Woakes dismissed two and one Australian batsman respectively.
