Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks entered this season – and later the Orlando bubble – as one of the favorites to win the NBA title. Instead, they saw their season come to a stunning end Tuesday night when they fell to the Miami Heat in Game 5 and lost the series 4-1.

Now things get really interesting for Milwaukee, as all eyes will be on Antetokounmpo and what happens next for the 25-year-old star who will shortly win his second straight NBA MVP award.

Antetokounmpo didn’t play in Tuesday night’s loss thanks to the ankle injury that knocked him out of Game 4. But following the loss he was the center of attention as NBA fans speculated on his future and which team he might play for next.

But here’s the thing – Antetokounmpo isn’t a free agent until after next season. The Bucks have the ability to, and will definitely do, offer him a supermax deal that will be worth a reported $220 million and will be $80 million more than another team could offer him in free agency in the summer of 2021.

So that means three things could happen:

1. Giannis could sign the deal and enjoy a monster payday that would keep him in Milwaukee thru the 2025-26 season. The only concern here would be about this franchise’s ability and desire to give Giannis all the pieces he would need to make a serious championship run.

2. Giannis could opt not to sign the deal and spend all of next season being asked about that while also trying to put these past two playoff failures behind him. Sounds like a nightmare situation, all things considered.

3. Giannis could decide not to sign the monster deal and ask to be traded, which would be a gigantic decision that would cause chaos in the NBA and would be a tough look to the end of his brilliant time with the Bucks.

This will be the story of the offseason until a decision is made. Taking the $220 million seems like a good decision to make for us losers who will never make that much money, but Giannis will still make a ton of money both on and off the court wherever he goes, and he might have much better chances to win many titles, too.

If Giannis doesn’t think the Bucks have what it takes to be a winner, not signing the deal and rolling the dice will be wild, but yet totally understandble.

It will also be pretty awkward, too.

I mean seriously, who saw this coming? On Tuesday McDonald’s unveiled its new “Cactus Jack” meal in collaboration with hip-hop superstar Travis Scott and the internet went absolutely nuts over it.
