ViacomCBS Networks International has agreed on a 3 year deal with the NFL to broadcast Monday night games.

The deal will bring Monday Night Football to the company’s free to air broadcaster Channel 5. Although financial terms of the agreement were not released, it was stated that it will be a non-exclusive deal.

Interestingly, Channel 5 was actually an NFL broadcaster from 1998 to 2009. Moreover, Viacom CBS is the parent company of CBS Sports. The CBS Television Network is well known for its broadcasts on Sunday afternoon games in the U.S.

The network will also be the official broadcaster for Super Bowl LV. Now, it looks as though ViacomCBS wants to expand their horizons, and target viewers across the pond.

A Multi-Platform Deal

Following the agreement reached by the 2 parties, ViacomCBS’ Channel 5 will now broadcast every Monday Night game live for fans in the UK. The first of which will be on September 14th when the Steelers travel to New York to take on the Giants.

Monday Night Football is a huge deal for NFL fans. Primetime football, and nationally televised. This year, former Jaguars All-Pro Maurice Jones-Drew and Kirsten Watson will host the program live from Channel 5’s studio in LA.

The channel will also host a show called NFL End Zone on Sunday mornings. End Zone will be filmed in the U.S. every week and will be hosted by Cory Yarckin, an American singer and actor.

The show will reportedly aim to help fans in the UK understand the culture of the NFL better, considering it is a relatively new market for the sport.

Finally, there is also a plan to include NFL content on MTV’s digital platform in the UK.

NFL in the UK

Sameer Pabari, NFL managing director, international media, said: “The range of content available across different time slots and platforms means there is something for everyone – from established fans to those new to the sport. The NFL is still relatively new to British fans. However, the sport has been on the rise in the UK ever since the league introduced NFL London Games.

Hopefully for ViacomCBS and the league, this new partnership will invoke a good response from viewers in the UK.
