Yorston targets Villa win

Captain Corinne Yorston has challenged Bristol Academy to return to form in The FA WSL Continental Cup after a disappointing stalemate against Yeovil last time out.

That 0-0 draw against The Glovers at the end of May has been grating Yorston and Co. over the international break.

They haven’t played since, and over a month later their hopes of making the Semi-Finals are still on a knife edge.

But Yorston, whose side are currently third in Group Three, believes they can make amends with victory over Aston Villa on Saturday.

She said: “We’re looking to get back to winning ways.

“The Continental Cup games we played before the break, particularly the Yeovil game, were quite frustrating really.

“We had enough chances to win the games and it would’ve been good to have got three points in one of the games.

“We played Aston Villa in a pre-season friendly and it was tough. I know it’s always totally different in friendlies but we know they will be a good team.”

Bristol, runners-up in The FA WSL and The FA Women’s Cup last season, are riding high again in the League this term and are third after just four games.

However, Yorston admits their lofty status can often be a carrot for other teams.

She added: “Villa will be looking to beat us given that we’re a WSL 1 team and they’re a WSL 2 team.

“It adds an extra bit of spice for them and they’ll up their game. I’m sure they’ll play the best they can because they’ll be really determined to beat us.

“So for us it’s going to be a really hard game but it would be great to get three points on the board.”

Aston Villa have struggled so far this season with just one win from nine games in FA WSL 2 and the Continental Cup combined.

But Villa centre back Jade Richards says they are still adjusting to life at the top.

She said: “Bristol are a good team, they have a few new additions so I expect it will be a tough physical game.

“We are looking forward to testing ourselves against the best.”
