Yadier Molina shattered his bat while attempting to tap home plate.

In the seventh inning of Wednesday’s game, Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina was getting ready to face Jon Lester when he tapped his bat on home plate, which is part of his routine before each pitch. The bat instantly shattered. Check this out:

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen other players break their bats tapping home plate like that — sometimes there are tiny cracks in the bat no one notices, it happens — but I can’t think of any off the top of my head.

One thing is for sure: Since this happened to a Cardinals player, we know the bat was broken The Right Way.

      Yeah he smashed it hard, good thing he didn’t hit the ball with that bat it would have shattered and gone who knows where. It must have been cracked before he even smashed it in the ground.
