Woman, 75, strangles rabid raccoon in self defense.

WTVR reports the raccoon attacked Cass Overton along the Wildside Walk Foot path at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. She is a volunteer at the garden.

The raccoon ran out of the woods close to the path where she was walking and started to scratch and claw her leg, WTVR reported. The animal then bit her leg, which forced her to react quickly. Overton grabbed the raccoon by its neck, threw it to the ground, and then put her knee on its neck until the animal stopped breathing, according to WTVR. She contacted the front desk and 911 was then notified.

She was taken to the hospital for treatment and is expected to be fine. The woman did have to get six shots and is expected to get several more.
