TSA Seizes Guns : Record number of firearms found in carry-on luggage at US airports

The TSA seized a record number of firearms from carry-on luggage last year.

Of the 2,212 guns recovered from carry-on bags in 2014, 70 were found at DIA — a 27 percent increase from the 51 guns confiscated at the aiport in 2013.

TSA spokesman Ross Feinstein told the newspaper in December that “passengers always say they just forgot that it was in their bag. It never ends up being something nefarious.”

Anyone who brings a firearm to an airport security checkpoint faces criminal penalties and a civil penalty up to $11,000.

TSA screened more than 653 million passengers in 2014, which is about 14.8 million more than in 2013.

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport topped the list of firearm seizures with 120, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport had 109, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport had 78 and George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston had 77.
