Tim Tebow gets standing ovation in Eagles debut - Watch

Tim Tebow made his long-awaited return to the NFL on Sunday, playing quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles in their preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts.

Tebow had an up-and-down afternoon as he completed 6-of-12 passes for 69 passing yards. He also ran for 15 rushing yards and a touchdown on four carries. The score came on a seven-yard run with 2:02 left in the game.

While he had the highlight score on the ground, he also was sacked multiple times because of his tendency to hold onto the ball for too long, which cost the Eagles plenty of yardage.

Tebow was the third quarterback to enter the game, following Mark Sanchez and Matt Barkley. Starting quarterback Sam Bradford was sidelined for the preseason opener.

The former Heisman Trophy winner entered the game in the third quarter with the Eagles already leading, 26-10. He played with the Eagles third and fourth-string offense against similar units for the Colts.

Tebow is battling Barkley for the third quarterback spot on the Eagles depth chart. Barkley played the majority of the first half and was on the field for the first series of the third quarter. He completed 12-of-20 passes for 187 passing yards and an interception and led three separate scoring drives.

The Eagles beat the Colts, 36-10.
