A teen who tried to chase down a suspected kidnapper after he allegedly grabbed a toddler says he was shocked to find out the suspect is a 15-year-old classmate.
“I’m feeling happy, I’m feeling angry at the same time. I do know the person,” explained 15-year-old Andrew Crain.
Andrew and his friend Isaac Yow chased the suspect on Sunday as he attempted to kidnap the 22-month-old child, but the suspect got away. The boys searched for the suspect, but didn’t connect that the man they were chasing was one of their peers.
“I did see him walking the day of the incident but we didn’t bother and go catch up with him,” Yow said, “he just looked like he normally would.”
But the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office pieced the clues together and arrested the 15-year-old this afternoon.
“Over the last 24 hours we identified a suspect,” said Lincoln County Sheriff Wade Magers, “and then through the process of a neighborhood search, some evidence located at the scene, we conducted an interview with the suspect.”
All the evidence, including the toddler’s sister identifying the teen in a photo montage, led detectives to arrest the boy.
Andrew and Isaac said they were surprised to learn the suspect’s identity, but said they have had problems with him in the past.
