Taco cannon coming to new UNO arena - Picture

The University of Nebraska-Omaha hockey team will introduce a taco cannon for home games next season. Bless their heart.

Local restaurant Voodoo Taco tweeted an image Wednesday of what appears to be a taco cannon, with the caption, “Someone will take a taco to the face.” They also announced via Twitter that they had partnered with UNO and the UNO Athletic Department. In an era and state where T-shirts, hotdogs and Runzas are ejected from pressurized cannons, the taco cannon should fit right in.

The Mavs just finished their most successful hockey season in program history: qualifying for the Frozen Four, winning their first NCAA Tournament game, having senior goalie Ryan Massa considered in the Hobey Baker Award conversation. The school is scheduled to open a new arena near Aksarben just before the start of UNO’s next hockey season.

“This is tomorrow,” UNO Chancellor John E. Christensen told KETV NewsWatch 7’s Melissa Fry in January. “This is the future of athletics at UNO.”

Future arena general manager Mike Cerasaid the design doesn’t allow for any bad vantage points. After all, you won’t want to miss a flying taco.
