Supergirl Picked Up : CBS Orders New Superhero Series

Supergirl is the latest series to be picked up by CBS for their fall schedule. Melissa Benoist (Glee, Whiplash), will be the woman behind the cape playing the lead role. She was cast in January.

The show, starring Glee’s Melissa Benoist, has been snapped up from pilot season and will air in the 2015/2016 schedules according to Variety, telling the story of Superman’s cousin, aka Kara Denvers or Kara Zor-El, who embraces her superhuman powers after leaving Krypton.

It is made by executive producer Greg Berlanti and Warner Bros TV, and is their third DC Comics adaptation after the success of Arrow and The Flash.

Alongside Melissa, the show will also star Calista Flockhart as Kara’s boss, Cat Grant; David Harewood as supervillain Hank Henshaw, known as Cyborg Superman in the DC world; Mehcad Brooks as Kara’s love interest, Jimmy Olsen; Chyler Leigh as Kara’s doctor sister, Alex Danvers; and Laura Benanti as Kara’s birth mother, Alura Zor-El.

Fans of the DC world should also keep an eye out for some familiar faces as Helen Slater, who starred in 1984 film Supergirl, and Dean Cain, who played Superman in TV series Lois And Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman, have been cast in secret roles.
