Earlier Monday there were a few reports that the New Orleans Saints fired defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. Those reports were refuted at first, but now it seems like they are true.
The Washington Redskins passed the football up and down the field and ran over, around and through Rob Ryan’s defense for 526 yards of total offense.
During Monday’s news conference, media members were expecting Saints head coach Sean Payton to announce the firing of Ryan. Instead, he threw a curve ball at the media after Fox Sports had reported that Ryan had been fired. He said he didn’t even speak with Ryan and didn’t have a chance to speak with Saints GM Mickey Loomis.
“It’s hard for me to answer to certain reports when deep down we haven’t even begun the process of evaluating players, coaches. “stated Payton.
Payton waited until his radio show Monday night on WWL to confirm he met with Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis and they decided to fire Ryan and said senior defensive assistant Dennis Allen would assume Ryan’s duties.
He did hint during the morning news conference that changes would likely be made.
Payton said, “I’m talking about players, us as a staff, all of us collectively but you’ve got to look closely at what’s winning, what’s keeping you from winning and to be fair to our players, our fans, and everyone else. We’ve got to look at that specifically.”
Rob Ryan is out and Dennis Allen is in. The Saints have a bye week before traveling to Houston to face the Texans on November 29. Houston upset Cincinnati Monday night.
