Mesut Ozil: Arsenal ace reveals injury update to Gunners fans ahead of Huddersfield clash | Football | Sport

Ozil has been struggling with a back injury in recent weeks and he has not played for Arsenal since November 11.

And the German is now involved in a laughing gas incident with his team-mates which took place during a team-bonding session in London back in August.

But Ozil has attempted to put the controversy behind him by resuming training, albeit away from the first-team squad.

As the Arsenal players prepared for this weekend’s clash with Huddersfield, Ozil worked individually with fitness coach Shad Forsythe.

And the Arsenal playmaker praised Forsythe for his help.

Ozil wrote on Twitter: “Still working hard to come back as soon as possible after my back injury.

“Special thanks to our fitness coach Shad Forsythe for the support every day.”

Ozil is Arsenal’s highest paid player but his absence hasn’t been felt by the team, who are unbeaten in their last 20 games in all competitions.

And former Stoke defender Danny Higginbotham feels Arsenal are coping fine without him.

“Mesut Ozil isn’t getting a look in at Arsenal and it’s no surprise, he just doesn’t do enough off the ball to fit into Unai Emery’s system,” Higginbotham wrote in the Sun.

“The German midfielder has suffered more than anyone from boss Emery’s arrival, despite being one of the best playmakers in the Premier League.

“This new-look Arsenal is all about intensity and pressing from the front, things that are not Ozil’s strengths.

“Emery has changed from a 4-2-3-1 to a 3-4-2-1 recently and it has worked a treat.

“Earlier in the season, Arsenal had developed a bad habit of getting hit on the counter-attack.

“They weren’t losing games but the likes of Watford, Leicester and West Ham squandered chances — and should really have made the Gunners pay.

“The new system allows them to defend with five — the three centre-backs plus the two holding midfielders — and attack with five, with the width being provided by the full-backs.

“To do this successfully everyone needs to be in sync and know their roles inside out.

“If one player doesn’t do his job properly then you break the chain and allow the opposition in — hence why Ozil isn’t playing.”
