Man Utd news: Woodward has three Pochettino expectations, Lukaku in exit plan, Keown claim | Football | Sport

Man Utd chief has Pochettino expectations

Manchester United executive vice-chairman reportedly has three expectations should the club replace Jose Mourinho with Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The Red Devils are stuck in a rut under Mourinho and, despite his agent claiming United are happy with the 55-year-old’s work, he could be axed if they fail to make the top four.

And The Sun say Woodward wants Pochettino because he feels he will be able to stop players from jetting abroad whenever they want – which they currently do under Mourinho.

It is said he also feels the Tottenham boss can coax the best from Paul Pogba, who has struggled under Mourinho’s guidance at Old Trafford.

And Woodward also reckons Pochettino can bring exciting football back to the club – something that has not been seen since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement over five years ago.

Lukaku exit plan

Romelu Lukaku wants to leave Manchester United because of Mourinho.

That huge transfer claim has been made by The Sun, who believe the Belgium international has grown fed up with his lack of action at Old Trafford.

Lukaku, a previous Mourinho loyalist, has been benched in recent times with Mourinho citing the player’s lack of confidence as a reason why.

But the powerhouse now supposedly wants out – though any exit in January appears unlikely.

Keown claim

Pundit Martin Keown believes Jose Mourinho will NOT get any transfer money from the United hierarchy in January.

And that, he feels, is because of how the Red Devils boss has barely used Fred since the Brazilian’s £52million arrival from Shakhtar Donetsk back in the summer.

“You look at Fred, a player United spent £52million on who cannot get a game,” he told the Daily Mail.

“Are United really going to commit another £52m or more to Mourinho in January to strengthen the squad?”
