Manchester United beat Chelsea to the signing of Lukaku in the summer of 2017, with the player leaving Everton for Old Trafford in a huge £75million transfer.
At the time, many were surprised. The Red Devils had previously been focusing all their efforts on luring Antoine Griezmann away from Atletico Madrid.
Chelsea were then expected to sign Lukaku, particularly given how the player had burnt his bridges over at Goodison Park.
Ultimately, however, Manchester United snapped him up – forcing Chelsea to settle for Alvaro Morata instead.
Yet journalist Duncan Castles, speaking on the Transfer Window podcast, says Lukaku was mislead.
It is said he was told by super-agent Raiola that he was in talks with Chelsea over a deal.
Raiola had promised him he would meet with Blues transfer guru Marina Granovskaia for talks.
However, that did not happen.
Instead, Lukaku was reportedly left seething that Raiola was actually in talks with United instead.
As a result, the United star ditched Raiola as his agent.
And he is now represented by P&P Sports management instead.
Meanwhile, Lukaku’s form has come under scrutiny in question with the United star struggling.
And Red Devils legend Gary Neville feels he should be dropped for their Premier League clash with Liverpool on Sunday (4pm).
“No, I would go with the mobility,” he said on Monday Night Football when asked if Lukaku should start.
“I would go with the ones that have been playing.
“I think the Lukaku who played at the World Cup for Belgium could make this team easily.
“But the Lukaku who has played for Manchester United this season is lacking confidence.”
