Sanchez moved to Old Trafford from Arsenal in January though has struggled to replicate his form in Manchester.
The Chilean has scored just four goals in all competitions in 28 appearances for the Red Devils, netting just once this season.
That’s come despite a recent upturn in United’s form with manager Mourinho reportedly close to the sack just weeks ago.
A win over Juventus in the Champions League in midweek seems to have eased any immediate concerns over Mourinho’s future.
He now goes into the Manchester derby on Sunday against Manchester City (4.30pm) with slightly more confidence.
Sanchez is a minor doubt for that clash have been seen clutching his thigh as he hobbled off the pitch against Juventus.
Whether he’s fit or not remains to be seen, but reports suggest he was never Mourinho’s first-choice.
The Times claim that Mourinho has privately admitted he would have preferred the Red Devils to have signed Ivan Perisic in the summer of 2017.
The Croatian shone during the World Cup as his nation reached the final with rumours that United were after him again soon following.
Mourinho reportedly believes the Inter Milan star has better crossing ability than Sanchez and that would have been key to provide service to the likes of Romelu Lukaku.
The Times also claim that Sanchez wants out of Manchester United with PSG a desired destination for his departure.
He had been taken out of the firing line by Mourinho recently and Sanchez’s former manager Arsene Wenger believes that was a positive.
“It is the question that he has raised with his performances,” Wenger said on BeIN Sport.
“I believe he has lost confidence.
“The strength of Alexis Sanchez is to take initiative, to dribble, to take people on.
“These kind of players are most vulnerable when they have no confidence anymore because their game is based on confidence and feeling free to take initiative.
“He has lost that slowly, even with the interruption of the season, since the start of the season he looks like he had a high level of energy that he has lost as well.
“Certainly, he is refreshed now because Mourinho left him out for a while and he has a good opportunity to get back to where he belongs, as a top player.”
