Liverpool were stunned by Red Star Belgrade in midweek as they went down 2-0 in the Champions League.
Jurgen Klopp made three changes from the side that drew 1-1 at Arsenal in the Premier League.
He handed a start to both Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge.
The striker was hooked at half-time after squandering a golden chance to give the Reds the lead.
Lallana has struggled to kick on from great form in Klopp’s early days as Liverpool boss.
Former Reds striker Dean Saunders hit out at the midfielder and Sturridge on BT Sport.
“Adam Lallana played [vs Red Star Belgrade] and tried too hard, he was not linking up properly,” he said.
“Sturridge had to make his mark and missed a chance in the first half.
“He looks as if he’s trying too hard.
“When he gets the ball in the box he looks like he’s thinking ‘I’ve got to do something.’
“Sometimes you make changes and that players that come in think ‘this is my chance’ and the whole team loses their rhythm.
“They will be back though, they’re two points behind Man City who are flying.
“It’s hard to question Jurgen Klopp, most of the things he’s done are right.
“They play Fulham tomorrow and that’s a home win for me.”
Liverpool will be looking to get their mojo back when they host bottom of the table Fulham on Sunday.
They will also be hoping that Manchester United can take some points off of Manchester City in the derby.
