Lewis Hamilton picked up his fifth world title this season and finally got his hands on the trophy last night.
The F1 star is hunting down Michael Schumacher’s record of seven and is likely to get there if he and Mercedes stay ahead of the curve.
And, in an emotional post on Instagram, he thanks his team and revealed how it felt.
He also revealed the three personality traits his team share.
“What a year it has been,” he wrote on an Instagram story post.
“To officially receive our trophies last night and be crowned 5-time champions felt incredible.
“I’m so proud of everyone in the team for our achievement this year.
“Hard work, vision, dedication. Through everyone in our team. A true honour. Couldn’t have done it without you guys.”
He also made a special mention for Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff.
“Through all these years, Toto, it’s a real pleasure working with you,” Hamilton said.
“The tough times have made us better and strong – look where we are now. Proud to stand together as champions.”
Hamilton, 33, is among the favourites for BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year awards after another phenomenal season.
But he dropped a retirement hunt at the awards do, suggesting he may not ‘love’ racing forever.
“I’ve just signed for another two years… So I’m excited about the next couple of years,” Hamilton said.
“But right now I’m happy that the racing’s over.
“Next year’s going to be so tough, the seasons are getting longer and longer.
“I don’t know how long I’m going to go, currently two years sounds good for me.
“But I still love racing so maybe I’ll be going a lot longer. Who knows?”
