Reports this week claimed Manchester City could be banned from the Champions League if European governing body UEFA decides to take action over alleged attempts to circumvent Financial Fair Play rules.

But boss Pep Guardiola is confident the Premier League champions will not face such a punishment.

Speaking ahead of the clash with Chelsea, the Spanish coach said: “We will not be banned, no. That’s what I think because I trust in my chairman, with my CEO and what they have explained to me. I trust in them.

“If it happens, because UEFA decide that, we will accept it and move forward.”

Meanwhile, Maurizio Sarri hopes Chelsea will give him time to realise his ambition of the Blues becoming the best side in the world.

Chelsea will face a true test of their progress under the Italian when City visit Stamford Bridge later this evening.

Sarri said: “What happens if Guardiola had no time in City? Maybe the best team in the world (would not have been) City in the last year.

“My problem is to improve my players, to solve the situation, to solve problems, to try to gain a lot of points. Then there is the club that will decide what is better for them.”

“Sergio Aguero misses the clash but the Citizens have no drought of attacking prowess with Gabriel Jesus the favourite to be the first goalscorer boosted from 4/1 to 5/1 and Leroy Sane to score anytime is now 11/4 from 9/4.

“If you think City will take the maximum 3 points from Stamford Bridge you can get them to win 2-1,3-1 or 4-1 at 9/2 from 7/2.”
