Arsene Wenger on Alexis Sanchez
Alexis Sanchez is starting to show his Arsenal form at Manchester United, Arsene Wenger claims.
“It is the question that he has raised with his performances,” Wenger said on BeIN Sport.
“I believe he has lost confidence.
“The strength of Alexis Sanchez is to take initiative, to dribble, to take people on.
“These kind of players are most vulnerable when they have no confidence anymore because their game is based on confidence and feeling free to take initiative.
“He has lost that slowly, even with the interruption of the season, since the start of the season he looks like he had a high level of energy that he has lost as well.
“Certainly, he is refreshed now because Mourinho left him out for a while.
“He has a good opportunity to get back to where he belongs, as a top player.”
Arsenal host Sporting CP at the Emirates tonight but Unai Emery is facing a defensive crisis.
Laurent Koscielny and Konstantinos Mavropanos are both out, while Nacho Monreal is all likely to be sidelined.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos could return for Arsenal, with the Greece international likely to partner Rob Holding in defence.
Predicted Arsenal team vs Sporting CP: Cech; Lichtsteiner, Holding, Sokratis, Kolasinac; Xhaka, Guendouzi; Iwobi, Ramsey, Welbeck; Aubameyang.
Nicolas Pepe hint
Lille attacker Nicolas Pepe has revealed he’s flattered to be linked with a move to the Gunners.
Reports have claimed Pepe could join Emery’s side, however, the winger may cost Arsenal around £40m.
Pepe said: “A preference between Borussia Dortmund, Bayern [Munich] or Arsenal? They’re all big clubs.
“I was not aware of these rumours, although it’s nice.”
