Pot for pets? As medical (and recreational) marijuana gains in popularity and legality nationwide, the newest twist is cannabis for pets, according to ABCNews.com.
Treatibles is a brand of pot for dogs that is sold online. It consists of dog biscuits infused with cannabidiol (CBD).
“What we’ve seen is that some of these dogs respond very rapidly,” said Matthew J. Cote, brand manager at San Francisco bay area edibles manufacturer Auntie Dolores, which launched its pet-focused line of Treatibles in 2014.. “One woman from Fort Bragg was ready to put down her dog due to how sick and in pain he was, but the day before he was scheduled to go under, she administered our treats and just like that the dog was up, walking around and acting normally again.”
Medicinal marijuana is legal in 23 states. It’s legal recreationally in four plus Washington D.C.
Even in the 23 states where medical marijuana is legal, veterinarians are not allowed to prescribe cannabis products to pets. The FDA says there is insufficient research on the effect cannabis products have on pets.
