Patton Robinette : Vandy QB ends football career, will attend medical school

Patton Robinette said his recent admittance to medical school was a greater factor in ending his football career than concussions.

Patton Robinette, who is a redshirt junior, will be starting at the Vanderbilt School of Medicine this summer to study orthopedics, according to the university’s athletics website.

“This has been a very difficult decision to make,” Robinette said. “This team means the world to me and I love playing football more than anything. It’s been tough coming to a decision that is right for my family and I, and protects my health and future.”

Patton Robinette shared his decision with his teammates Friday morning.

He would have been one of the top prospects for the team’s starting quarterback this fall.

According to the university, Robinette completed 89 of 155 passes for 1,096 yards and seven touchdowns in a career that included five starts in 16 appearances during the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
