Paige VanZant jumps up UFC ladder with dominant win : Watch 'Emotional' win for VanZant

Paige VanZant backs up the hype with dominant win over Felice Herrig, For three rounds VanZant (5-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) outworked and outmaneuvered Herrig (10-6 MMA, 1-1 UFC), shrugging off bad positions and racing to better ones en route to a one-sided unanimous decision victory (30-27, 30-26, 30-26).

The inexperienced fighter did well under pressure, surviving the offensive submission game from Herrig to narrowly remain in the game.

“12 Guage” VanZant is a deceptively-good wrestler, landing three of four takedowns over the three round contest, and constantly pressured the eighth-ranked contender with pin-point accurate punches and elbows on the ground.

During the final two rounds, the popular fighter had a strong lead, and was just running up the score board with solid strikes on the ground.

The Califorina-based striker landed 228 strikes, with over 10 minutes of control to win the biggest fight of her entire career.

In the end, VanZant won the deicison with scores of 30-27, 30-26 and 30-26.

VanZant has received a significant amount of backlash from fans and peers in the weight class for being one of the few hand-picked UFC fighters to have an individual Reebok sponsorship.

With the UFC and a global footwear brand putting their promotional muscle behind the up-and-coming fighter, comes a lot of pressure, but VanZant is taking it in stride.

“I don’t feel any pressure, I’m the underdog, I’m supposed to lose.” The talented fighter said.

VanZant is currently ranked 12th in the UFC’s official rankings, but many have speculated that she could springboard into a title fight with this impressive victory.
