Nephatira Dansby, Katrina Dansby : charged with beating police officer

Nephatira Dansby and Katrina Dansby in New Jersey were arrested after police say they assaulted at Port Authority police officer at Newark Airport Thursday evening.

Nephatira T. Dansby, 24, of East Orange had stopped her 2006 grey Chevrolet Equinox outside Terminal A, obstructing two lanes of traffic around 5 p.m., agency spokesman Joe Pentangelo said.

The officer, whose name was not released, approached the car on foot and signaled Dansby to move the car to the curb, Pentangelo said.

She shouted and cursed at the officer and refused to move at first, but then pulled over to the side and blocked the taxi line. The officer knocked on the driver’s window and asked for Dansby’s license and registration.

Dansby rolled her window down and opened the car door, hitting the officer, Pentangelo said. The officer told Dansby to stay in the car and roll down the window but she allegedly pushed her way out of the car, striking the officer with the door.

Dansby then got out of the car and grabbed the officer’s arms and face, he said. Dansby’s mother, Katrina O. Dansby, 41, then arrived and grabbed the officer.

Dansby’s mother held the officer as she punched the officer, Pentangelo said. Other officers arrived and arrested the women.

They are both charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, obstruction of administrative law, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

The officer has worked for the agency for two years and has been released from the hospital, Pentangelo said.
