Morocco barred from Africa Cup of Nations, Caf says

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has disqualified Morocco from competing in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Morocco had requested a postponement of the 30th edition of the tournament due to fears over the Ebola outbreak on the continent.

CAF initially gave the North African country until Saturday to say whether or not it would stage the tournament from 17 January to 8 February.

But Morocco remained steadfast in their desire to postpone the event until 2016.

Following an executive committee meeting in Cairo, CAF decided to to look for another host.

The governing body also banned Morocco from playing at the finals – where ever they may be staged.

With just over two months until kickoff CAF is now searching for a replacement venue although it said it has received interest from several national associations wanting to host the competition.
