MMA star Anderson Silva fails second drug test

Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva failed a drug test after his unanimous decision over Nick Diaz at UFC 183 on Jan. 31.

His subsequent January 19 test results came back clean, but he again failed his pre- and post-fight tests on the night of the bout in Las Vegas.

The Brazilian’s pre-fight test again came back positive for traces of the performance enhancing drug, drostanolone.

The 39-year-old’s post-fight test was positive for oxazepam and temazepam, medications used to treat anxiety and insomnia.

The NSAC released the information ahead of a commission meeting in Las Vegas yesterday.

At the meeting on Tuesday, the NSAC issued Silva a temporary suspension pending a full disciplinary hearing before the commission at its March meeting in response to the multiple failed drug tests.

UFC officials are set to hold a press conference later today to discuss the company’s plans to address PED use.
