MLS : Mauro Diaz suspended for next FC Dallas playoff match

The MLS Disciplinary Committee announced on Friday that FC Dallas playmaker Mauro Diaz has been suspended one game for entering the field/leaving the bench area during Wednesday’s game against Vancouver Whitecaps.

Diaz left the bench during a confrontation in the 84th minute, just moments after FC Dallas took the lead in the match on a controversial penalty kick. Diaz was subbed out of the match just minutes before and made the mistake of getting involved when he shouldn’t have. Diaz received a yellow card for his involvement shortly after the altercation was broken up by the officials.

FC Dallas as a team also picked up a warning for violating the league’s mass confrontation rule.

Now FC Dallas faces a fresh team without their main creative force in the midfield. But in some ways that may be a good thing as Diaz was never going to give FCD the full 90 on Sunday, especially on short rest. I would argue that a 4-4-2 from FCD will matchup better against Seattle anyways, similar to what we saw against Seattle last month when the two teams squared off.
