“[Meteorologist Crawford] was getting into his car this morning after leaving the building and the subject walked up to him and they had a confrontation,” Department of Public Safety Trooper D.L. Wilson told ABC News.

After the pair exchanged a few words, the suspect reportedly fired several shots at Meteorologist Crawford and fled.

Meteorologist Crawford was taken to Baylor Scott and White Hospital where he underwent surgery, and is said to be in stable condition.

Patrick has been with KCEN for two years after leaving the NBC affiliate in New Orleans,” News Director Jim Hice said in a statement. “He is a loved member of the KCEN family and our thoughts and prayers go out to him, Heather and their family.”

On Wednesday afternoon, officials said that a person of interest was taken into custody, but later announced that the person is not a suspect, according to The Dallas Morning News. Police say, however, that they are following up on several leads.
