Marcus Lattimore (Knee) to Retire

Marcus Lattimore’s comeback from a knee injury suffered over two years ago may come to an end soon, as ESPN’s Adam Caplan reports the San Francisco 49ers running back decided to retire from the sport due to issues with his knee, although that hasn’t been confirmed.

Several outlets near San Francisco reported Sunday that Lattimore was not on the field with the team on Sunday for their game against the Rams.

“Did not see Marcus,” 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said. “I’m sure we’ll have an announcement about that.”

Lattimore reported soreness in his injured knee after a few days of practice.

Lattimore suffered season-ending injuries to his knees during both his sophomore and junior years at South Carolina, requiring surgery to both his right and left leg. He did not play at all in 2013, or for most of this season, but had begun practicing last week.
