Malik Zaire : Notre Dame QB suffers broken ankle in win, is done for season - Watch

Malik Zaire suffered what appeared to be a right ankle injury late in the third quarter of Notre Dame’s game at Virginia on Saturday.

Malik Zaire left the game in the third quarter, and his backup DeShone Kizer came in and led the Irish to a last-minute victory with a 40-yard touchdown pass to Will Fuller.

“We won, but we lost Malik, who’s a very important guy to us,” Kelly said. “I know our kids, and they’re celebrating the win and they’re happy, but they lost a kid that they feel really strongly about in the locker room. They’ll bounce back. The kids are resilient. The coaches are probably feeling it more. I am particular because I’m so close to him. I feel so bad for him. But we’ll bounce back from it and DeShone now has got to run our football and we feel good about it.”

Malik Zaire finished Saturday 7-of-18 for 115 yards and one touchdown pass. He also rushed for 87 yards on 10 carries. Kizer completed 8-of-12 passes for 92 yards and two scores (one coming on a fake field goal in the first quarter).
