Lewes on The Cup offensive

Lewes have lofty ambitions in this year’s FA Cup, according to manager Garry Miller.

The Rooks go into their replay with Bognor Regis Town on Wednesday night in a good run of form, unbeaten in four matches with three clean sheets.

And Miller believes this, along with the home advantage, stands his side in good stead to triumph over their South Coast rivals after the initial encounter ended goalless.

“It will be close, definitely, but I think the odds swing in our favour,” Miller said.

“Obviously it’s nice to be at home, and playing in front of our own fans might give us that extra edge.”

Bognor Regis are 19th in the Isthmian Premier League, one place above and level on points with Lewes. Miller revealed that his side have been working hard on developing their offensive qualities ahead of Wednesday’s replay.

And a victory would also see them secure £3,000 from The FA’s Prize Fund.

“We’ve had three clean sheets in a row now, so we’ve tightened things up at the back. However, we need to be a bit more clinical, so we’ve been working on our attacking in training.”

Lewes, who welcome back defender Ollie Rowe from suspension, are no strangers to FA Cup success, reaching The First Round Proper on three occasions.

Miller is setting his sights on similar heights during this campaign. He added: “Everyone loves the hype of The FA Cup, the fans and the players alike. For them it’s massive.

“We’d love a Cup run, and to reach the First Round again would be fantastic. That’s the aim, but we’d love to take it as far as we can go.”

A win for the Rooks would set up a tie with fellow Isthmian league outfit Witham Town, a prospect which Miller is relishing.

“If we can get a result, we can look forward to a good tie with Witham Town, and then go from there.”
