Kyrie Irving eye injury: Boston Celtics star suffers scratched eye (Details).
Kyrie Irving took an elbow to the face and went down hard with 7:32 left in Boston’s 120-111 loss to the San Antonio Spurs. After staying down on the floor for a short time, Irving briefly left the game. Even though he returned, Brad Stevens did tell reporters after the game that Irving suffered an eye injury on the play.
“Kyrie has a scratched eye” Stevens said. “He’ll have antibiotics for that. I don’t know what that means beyond tonight.”
That Irving isn’t already ruled out for future games is a good sign considering how scary the injury looked at first. Irving has had some bad luck with taking shots to the face, suffering a broken nose in 2013 while in Cleveland and then suffering a facial fracture at the beginning of last season.
Eye injuries can be tricky, but at least Irving will enjoy the benefits of being home for a while after tonight, avoiding travel, and having access to his own team’s doctors and facilities should anything need closer attention.
