Kenney Bui: Seattle HS football player dies after game injury

Kenney Bui died Monday following an injury he sustained during a game in Washington on Friday.

The injury reportedly occurred during the fourth quarter of Friday’s game against Highline High School as he attempted to make a tackle. A source told KING 5 that Bui suffered a traumatic brain injury on the play.

Highline Public Schools Superintendent Susan Edfield released a statement Monday addressing the devastating news.

“It is with great sadness that School Board President Bernie Dorsey and I share with you that TEC High School senior Kenney Bui, who was critically injured in Friday night’s Evergreen v. Highline football game, died this morning at the hospital.

“This is a devastating loss for all of us — Evergreen students, families, and staff, and our entire Highline community. Our deepest condolences go out to Kenney’s family and all who knew him. Please join us in keeping them in your thoughts and prayers.”

The Highline School District has cancelled Evergreen’s scheduled game Friday against Lindbergh.
