Joni Mitchell Taylor Swift: Music Legend Joni Mitchell Stopped Taylor Swift From Playing Her in a Biopic

Joni Mitchell Didn’t Want Taylor Swift to Play Her in a Film, the “Blank Space” singer was in talks to play the music legend in an adaptation of Sheila Weller’s book Girls Like Us, which recounts Mitchell, Carol King and Carly Simon’s impact on music. But Mitchell said she’d never, ever, ever, let it happen.

According to a new report from the Sunday Times (via Rolling Stone), Mitchell “squelched” the film. The singer told the Times, “I said to the producer, ‘All you’ve got is a girl with high cheekbones.’ It’s just a lot of gossip, you don’t have the great scenes.” On top of that, she also called a lot of the film’s source material “assumptions,” which was written by author Sheila Weller. “There’s a lot of nonsense about me in books.” Mitchell said.

No word from Swift yet on the new report, but we can guess she isn’t thrilled, considering how much she was pining to play the part of Joni Mitchell. Back in 2012, Swift told RS Country, “I wish I could say it’s confirmed!” about the rumors. She added, “But the thing about movies I’ve learned is – I’ve been reading scripts for five years, and you just don’t know what ones are going to get greenlit and which ones aren’t.” Due to that, Swift couldn’t add anything further because she apparently had no clue as to what was going down behind the scenes.

We’re curious if 2014’s Taylor Swift would have had more control on the project. Seeing as how she basically captivated the world with her recent 1989 release and taking her entire catalogue off of Spotify.
