Joey Feek Cancer Update: Joey and Rory Feek share first video of daughter Indiana speaking

Joey Feek Cancer Update – Baby’s first word! In the midst of Joey Feek’s brave battle with cancer comes a milestone moment. The ailing country singer’s husband, Rory, shared a sweet video on Instagram showing their daughter, Indiana, 2, speaking for the first time on Sunday, February 21.

“‘Look papa, no hands’!!! I took Indy to the grocery store this afternoon and by the time we got home she was saying sounds back to me without using sign language,” the proud dad captioned the Instagram.

Indiana was born with Down Syndrome, and Rory blogged on March 18, 2014 about her birth on his personal blog, “This Life I Live.”

“Although that news came at first as a surprise to us, Joey and I wouldn’t have changed a thing,” he wrote. “We trusted that God would give us the baby He wanted us to have… and He has. Out of all the parents in the world, He has chosen us to care for and raise this special gift.”

Recently, Joey and Rory celebrated Indiana’s second birthday on Feb. 17.

The terminally ill singer wrote about how special it was to celebrate her daughter’s birthday.

“Some birthdays are more than just birthdays. They’re dreams coming true and prayers being answered,” the Instagram was captioned. The picture showed Joey smiling and clasping Indiana’s hands as Indiana sat in her mother’s bed.

In October 2015, Joey was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She had been undergoing chemotherapy for stage four cervical cancer, but Rory revealed that his wife would no longer seek treatment for terminal disease.

Rory has been incredibly attentive throughout her cancer journey and has been updating his wife’s status on social media and has also been keeping updates on his blog. The pictures of Joey often include their daughter, whom they lovingly calling “Indy.”

For the week of Feb. 19, Rory called it “a week to remember,” because they celebrated their daughter’s birthday, Valentine’s Day and Joey and a Grammy nomination. The couple, Joey + Rory, was nominated for Best Country Duo/Group Performance at this year’s Grammys. Although they didn’t win (Little Big Town took home the prize), Rory wrote that being nominated was “enough.”

“This has been a week to remember,” he wrote. “There have been big parties for little people and small losses with great lessons… and we even had a romantic night filled with more love for each other than we even thought was possible. But mostly, this has been a week filled with thankfulness.”

And little Indy’s words just made the week even more memorable.
