Jenks targets trophy haul

Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson is targeting medal number two after lifting The FA Cup in May.

The England Under-21 man says that success at Wembley Stadium has only whetted the appetite of the Gunners squad, and with the arrival of Chilean striker Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona, Jenkinson believes they could not be better prepared for the season ahead.

“Once you’ve got one [trophy], [you] want to experience it again,” he said. “Everyone was over the moon with winning The FA Cup – it was such a big thing for us all.

“Fingers crossed we can compete on all fronts this season. We have the squad and we are signing players like Sanchez, so I don’t see why we can’t.”

The addition of Sanchez, who could make his competitive debut for Arsenal in The Community Shield against Manchester City on Sunday 10 August, has left the whole squad excited according to Jenkinson.

“He is a fantastic player, everyone at the club is buzzing about it,” the right-back told Arsenal.com. “It is a similar feeling to when Mesut Ozil signed last year.

“He is world class and they’re the sort of players you want to see at the club. The squad are buzzing as much as the fans, because if you’re going to push on as a club and really compete for things, you need to sign top players.

“We have done that with him for sure – it is a fantastic addition. Everyone is over the moon that we have signed someone of that calibre.

“If you’re world class then you fit into any side and he’s definitely in that category.”
