Jeff Gordon retiring from NASCAR as full-time racer, It will be his 23rd season running full-time in the Sprint Cup Series.
The four-time NASCAR champion is coming off one of his best seasons in years, having won four times in 2014.
Vienna native and professional race car driver Cale Conley says he was surprised to hear of Gordon’s retirement, but he respects the decision.
Conley believes Gordon will continue to be successful, possibly as a commentator or mentor to up and coming drivers.
And he says his departure opens the door for future generations.
“I hope that all the guys start retiring here soon that way all those seats will start opening up for us young guys to get in,” says Conley. “There’s a lot of young, great talent coming up that hopefully one of us – we can be the next Jeff Gordon, you know.”
