Jason Pierre-Paul : NFL star injures hand in fireworks accident

New York Giants defender Jason Pierre-Paul — known as JPP — reportedly seriously hurt his hand in a fireworks accident on the Fourth of July, and was treated at a Broward Health facility in Deerfield Beach.

The 26-year-old is being treated at North Broward Medical Center in Deerfield Beach for serious injuries, the New York Post reported.

A video posted on Pierre-Paul’s Instagram page showed the player with his infant son with a U-Haul truck in the background containing boxes of fireworks.

It is unclear if the injury will affect his ability to start the new season, although doctors said they believed there will be no permanent damage to his hand.

Pierre-Paul was given a $14.8m franchise tag by the New York Giants after the 2014 season. The franchise tag allows a team to keep a player whose contract is about to expire for a year, as long as certain conditions are met.

But he has yet to sign the deal and is currently not under contract.

The NFC team could choose to withdraw the offer if he is unable to play due to injury.
