Jared Cowen was suspended three games for his illegal hit to the head on Florida Panthers forward Jussi Jokinen Saturday at Canadian Tire Centre.
Senators coach Dave Cameron confirmed the suspension Monday.
Cowen caught Jokinen with a hit above his shoulders during the second period, drawing a minor penalty for interference. Jokinen stayed down on the ice for several moments after the hit but returned to the game, logging 16:21.
“I’m disappointed,” Cowen said Monday. “I think three games is a bit much. I didn’t hurt anyone and I didn’t mean to hurt anyone.”
Cowen’s repeat-offender status likely contributed to a longer suspension. He was banished for two games in December 2013 for an illegal check to the head of Buffalo Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons.
