Jameis Winston is hoping to lose some weight to get into better shape heading into his first NFL training camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“Trying to lose some weight, try to get back skinny,” Winston told NFL.com. “Right now I’m 238 (pounds), I’m trying to be my redshirt freshman year (weight), about 230. I mean, learn that playbook too, man, you can never go wrong with that.”
Weight concerns snuck their way into conversation for Buccaneers fans earlier in the offseason, but did not appear to have any effect on the young QB during organized team activities.
The Buccaneers need a lot of help after finishing with a league-worst 2-14 record in 2014.
“You never focus on the negative. You put a big smile on your face and work hard and work to improve every single day,” Winston said.
Even though most of the conversation surrounding Winston is about how he can help the Buccaneers on the field, off-field concerns still linger.
“I have nothing to prove,” Winston said. “I believe that people make mistakes, but I also believe that you bounce back from those and I’m just moving forward.”
