Ishmael Adams : UCLA starting cornerback arrested on suspicion of robbery

Ishmael Adams has been arrested on suspicion of felony robbery after allegedly taking a phone from an Uber driver early Sunday morning.

Ishmael Adams, 21, was taken into custody by the UCLA Police Department shortly after 3:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Ricardo Vasquez, an associate director of the university’s Media Relations and Public Outreach division.

Adams has been charged with robbery, Vasquez said.

His bail was set at $100,000, Los Angeles County jail records showed. He was scheduled to make his first court appearance on Tuesday.

“We are aware of the situation and continuing to gather information,” UCLA Associate Athletic Director Josh Rupprecht said in an emailed statement. “As this is a pending legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”

Adams is a redshirt junior who has started in 26 consecutive games the past two seasons. He is originally from Woodland Hills and attended Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village, according to his biography on the UCLA Athletics website.

The Bruins are scheduled to kick off their 2015 season against the University of Virginia at the Rose Bowl this Saturday.
