I-95 Bus Crash: More than 30 injured in Connecticut casino

I-95 in Connecticut snarled after bus crash in snowy weather leaves at least 30 people hurt.

State police confirm to News 8 that a bus rolled over in Madison between Exits 60 and 61 at 12:28 p.m. The State DOT reports that the northbound side of the highway is closed in that area.

Multiple ambulances across the shoreline have responded to the scene, as well as area fire departments.

State Police tell News 8 the Dahlia tour bus had about 70 passengers on board. Approximately 30 of those passengers were able to walk off the bus of their own power. The Day of New London reports the bus was bound for Mohegan Sun. The windshield was removed by emergency responders to get passengers out of the bus.

Injured people are being taken to Yale Trauma Center in New Haven. Hospital officials tell News 8 that they are expecting 30-40 people to be admitted, with six of them in critical condition. A hospital spokesperson said that it took ambulances much longer than normal to get the critically injured people to the hospital due to poor driving conditions.

All passengers are now out of the bus. Passengers that are not injured are being taken to a warming center at the Town Gym in Madison.

In a statement released Monday afternoon, Gov. Dannel Malloy said,

We continue to monitor the situation closely and receive updates in real-time. Public safety is our top priority and our office continues to work with state agencies and emergency management officials to that end. Our thoughts are with those who are injured, and we extend our gratitude to the first responders who are working to protect the safety of all those involved. We urge all those who must travel to use added caution, allow extra time to travel, and reduce speeds as conditions warrant.”
