Hyperloop train could be coming to the UK in the near-future - Details

Hyperloop Coming To The UK, London To Manchester In 18 Minutes.

A billionaire has come up with the Hyperloop, a supersonic rail system that travels at an unfathomable 760mph.

It currently takes about two hours and eight minutes to get to London from Manchester, so 18 minutes would be a dream come true.

It all sounds unlikely, but transport bosses in the north are already eyeing up plans for the futuristic train, which could also slash journey times between Manchester and Liverpool or Leeds and Sheffield to just ten minutes.

Technology mogul, Elon Musk, drew up plans for a train that uses magnetic pods to whiz passengers through a network of airless tubes on stilts, to protect against flooding and earthquakes.

Passengers would sit in either individual or group pods, which would then
be accelerated using magnets.

The airless vacuum would move faster than the speed of sound.

It was unveiled in 2013 by Musk and remains at an early development stage.
Tests in the Nevada desert have only reached 116mph so far – but it’s said it could one day reach speeds of 760mph.

The High Speed 2 (HS2) line is already in the pipeline to deliver a faster train between London and Manchester by 2033. So we could be waiting for some time before the Hyperloop is given the go ahead.

Ed Cox, director of IPPR North, a think-tank, said the Hyperloop could work well to connect the cities of the north, adding: ‘Some may scoff – but ideas like the Channel Tunnel were once derided too.’
