Hyeon-jong Yang : Korean media says Rangers won bidding rights to Yang

The Texas Rangers have reportedly submitted the highest bid for Korean pitcher Hyeon-jong Yang, who was posted by the Kia Tigers recently

A source with Rangers management said the bidding process has not been finalized or confirmed by the league office. The league doesn’t tell teams who won the bid until the Asian team decides whether it accepts, the source said.

Yang, 26, was named the best pitcher in the Korean Baseball Organization this season, the league’s Cy Young award, with a 4.25 ERA. The league average ERA was 5.63 in 2014. Reports say Yang throws in the low to mid-90s.

Initial reports, including out of Minnesota, said the Twins had won the bidding. But Korean media reported Sunday that Texas, in fact, had made the highest bid.

The winning team has 30 days to negotiate a contract.
