Holly Holm rematch: Dana White Reveals Surprising New Development

UFC president Dana White says women’s bantamweight champ Holly Holm will fight before a rematch with Ronda Rousey, he told FOX Sports 1.

“Holly Holm will fight before she fights Ronda,” White confirmed, but stopped short of naming a date or opponent for the newly-crowned women’s bantamweight champ.

However, it would seem most likely that Holm’s next opponent will be the former Strikeforce champion Miesha Tate, who was initially promised the title shot that eventually went to Holm at UFC 193 last year.

Tate defeated fellow contender Jessica Eye in a bout that was slated as a title eliminator, with White confirming in the post-fight press conference that ‘Cupcake’ will receive the next title shot.

But when Rousey appeared on Good Morning America to reveal her next opponent, it was Holm’s name she announced, not Tate’s.

Now it seems likely that Tate – who is currently riding a four-fight win streak – will finally get the title shot she deserves, and could face Holm in the spring.

As for Rousey, she’s involved in the production of two movies in the early part of this year, but White confirmed the former champion and Olympic medallist is far from done in the UFC.

“You will see Ronda Rousey fight again,” White stated.

“Ronda has dedicated the last three-plus years to working hard here. Not just fighting, but promoting and taking the sport and the UFC to a whole other level.

“Ronda has some well-deserved time off but she will fight this year.”
