Hafthor Bjornsson : Game of Thrones actor breaks 1000-year Viking record

Hafthor Bjornsson, the Icelandic strongman who is the latest actor to play Gregor “The Mountain that Rides” Clegane on Game of Thrones, broke a legendary, 1,000-year-old record to win this years’ “World’s Strongest Viking” competition.

Hafthor Bjornsson may be better known to GOT fans for taking down Oberyn Martell in the last season with what should be a trademarked watermelon skull crush, but he may soon go down into Icelandic folklore as well after winning the World’s Strongest Viking competition for a second year running.

According to Icelandic legend Orm Storulfsson carried a 640kg log on his back for three steps before his back gave out.

You’d think after a 1000 years your record may be safe but that didn’t account for Bjornsson, who apparently managed to walk five steps with the log, according to his post on Instagram.

The 26-year-old former basketballer has made no secret of his wish to win the world’s strongest man competition after third-place finishes in 2012 and 2013.

And, it seems the log challenge has certainly laid a good foundation for him to attack this competition.

“Nothing can stop me, nothing can break me,” he declared on Instagram.
