Guthrie Subs On ‘NBC Nightly News’ As Lester Holt Handles Family Emergency

Lester Holt has been called away from his role as fill-in for Brian Williams in the “NBC Nightly News” anchor’s chair. Variety reports that “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie will take over the program tonight as Holt deals with a family medical emergency.

The 43-year-old journalist and attorney is also set to cover for Holt on Tuesday in addition to carrying out her co-hosting duties on the Today show.

After anchoring the nightly television news program, Guthrie received mainly positive feedback from social media users who praised her time management skills.

Guthrie has anchored Nightly News a number of times in the past while now-ousted anchor Brian Williams was ill or on vacation. Williams was suspended from the network until June after he recanted a story that his helicopter was hit when he was in Iraq in 2003.

Guthrie, who joined NBC as a legal analyst in 2007, is contractually tied to Today until 2018.

Holt is considered the front-runner to take over Nightly News, should Williams not return.
